The Pediatrics Division

The Pediatrics Division at the Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh) comprises various departments, units, clinics, and services. The division prioritizes accessibility and comprehensive patient support while emphasizing the child’s connection to their natural place in the community. These treatments align with the division’s central motive: "Facing the Community." This motive is reflected in community pediatric medical services provided to minority groups, underprivileged populations, and diverse demographic sectors.

Pediatric Emergency Department

The Pediatric Emergency Department provides initial treatment and stabilization for patients.


Pediatric Clinics – Pediatric Outpatient Unit

The Pediatric Outpatient Unit and Pediatric Clinics at the medical center manage the ambulatory services of the Pediatrics Division, treating over 12,000 children annually.

Pediatric Allergy, Immunology, and Pulmonology Institute

The Pediatric Allergy, Immunology, and Pulmonology Institute is led by Prof. Arnon Elizur. This institute offers a broad range of services, including diagnosis and treatment of food allergies, drug allergies, allergic rhinitis, insect bite allergies, asthma, urticaria and angioedema, and immune deficiency disorders.


Pediatrics Department

The Pediatrics Department serves as the heart of the Pediatric Division, admitting children with various health conditions who cannot be managed by community services or require specialized inpatient treatment.


Pediatric Surgery

This department admits children requiring surgical procedures, diagnostic evaluations, and treatments across multiple surgical specialties.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

A specialized medical unit integrating the latest technology and medical advancements with a multidisciplinary professional team.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

The PICU treats patients suffering from life-threatening organ failure, who require respiratory support and continuous close monitoring of vital signs.

 


Pediatric Urology

The field of pediatric urology is expanding, providing solutions for conditions requiring surgical intervention during childhood. These conditions are often diagnosed in prenatal diagnostic screening, sometimes immediately after birth and sometimes in early childhood or even adolescence.


Pediatric Orthopedics Department

The Pediatric Orthopedics Department is well known both in Israel and internationally for its expertise in rehabilitative orthopedics. The department treats children with disabilities resulting from accidents, congenital malformations and diseases, particularly children with cerebral palsy.


Pediatric Gastroenterology

The Pediatric Gastroenterology Unit at the medical center provides diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and support for a wide range of gastrointestinal, liver, and nutritional disorders in infants, children, and adolescents.


Eating Disorders Unit for Children and Adolescents

Rising awareness of the complexities of eating disorders, alongside increasing demand for specialized care, led to the establishment of this dedicated service focusing on this highly important issue.


Neurology Department & Multidisciplinary Pediatric Epilepsy Center

This department is Israel’s only dedicated inpatient pediatric neurology unit and one of the few worldwide that focuses on specialized treatment for pediatric neurological disorders.


Pediatric Neurology & Child Development Center

The center for Pediatric Neurology & Child Development offers high-level medical and therapeutic services for a broad spectrum of pediatric neurological and developmental conditions.


Gefen Clinic – Mind-Body

The Gefen Clinic serves children and adolescents (ages 6 to 18) and their families who experience physical symptoms that lack a clear medical explanation.
