Otorhinolaryngology Department

The Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh) is an independent department that treats various nose, ear, throat, neck and head diseases.

About the department

The Otorhinolaryngology department at the Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh) comprises the ENT clinic, the vestibular clinic, the audiological institute and the posture institute. The department offers examination and diagnosis of diseases and conducts testing towards the continued treatment of complex diseases, such as orbital and intracranial complications of sinusitis and head and neck tumors. The department also performs common and complex operations.

Director’s message

We embrace the world’s most advanced technologies to provide the best surgical response to our patients, and we teach interns the love of the profession.

The department has put the human perspective and the attitude toward the patient at the top of its priorities, no less than the professional aspect. It thus outlines a path for future ENT surgeons.

Patients

Among the special services for patients, one can note the ongoing and exclusive service provided to the Israeli Prison Service, including in an operating room in prison. In addition, we offer ongoing services to IDF soldiers and the Ministry of Defense, as well as ENT surgery for children and soldiers, as part of the initiative for waiting time reduction for soldiers.

The team

In addition to the department's director, the Otorhinolaryngology Department team consists of ten attendings and seven residents. In addition, interns and external residents work in the department for various periods.

The head and neck surgery unit

The Head and Neck Surgery Unit conducts diagnosis, dissection and monitoring of benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck, including oral cavity and tongue tumors, throat and vocal cords, nose, sinuses, salivary glands, thyroid and parathyroid glands, and esophageal constrictors.

Surgical snoring treatment

At the surgical center for snoring and respiratory arrest treatment at the Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh), we use the most advanced technologies for performing these surgeries: laser burning and cutting, tissue coblation and even robotic surgery.

Rhinological Service – Nose and Sinus Clinic

The Nose and Sinus Clinic at the Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh) was established to provide a professional and focused response to patients suffering from nose and sinus disorders.

Ear Surgery Unit – cochlear and skull base implants

This unit offers diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of the external, middle and internal ear diseases in adults and children.

Otorhinolaryngology Clinic

The Otorhinolaryngology Clinic at the Medical Center operates under the professional auspices of the Otorhinolaryngology Department. The clinic treats a wide range of diseases related to the nose, ear, throat, neck, and head, which are not treated by the public health service.

Dysphagia Clinic

Dysphagia disorders are a common phenomenon that, unfortunately, affects many aspects of quality of life. The Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh) established a dysphagia clinic aimed at diagnosing dysphagia disorders and providing solutions and continued examination and treatment. The dysphagia clinic is part of the service offered in the Otorhinolaryngology clinic and is intended for patients suffering from swallowing difficulty (dysphagia), which may indicate its origin in the oral cavity area (oropharyngeal).

Pediatric Ear, Nose and Throat

The service offers the diagnosis and treatment of various ENT diseases in children up to the age of 17 years.
